Dear Team,

It has been a massive year and as we all start to wind down, I’d like to take a few moments to reflect on the year that was. 

We started off 2015 with a re-set on our key priorities, listening via the staff survey, and have worked hard to keep the spotlight on this as the year has progressed.

We closed out November with the National Conference, bringing all 500 OMD’ers and m2m’ers together in the Hunter to share our 3 year company ambition and give you a flavour on how we will roll as the leader in our industry. It was fantastic to unite all of the OMD family together, share the future ambition and party the night away like the true rock stars that we are! Thanks all for coming, being present and persevering through the soaring Hunter Valley temperatures to make it a great day.

We believe that this sets us apart from our competitors, has meaning for you our people, our clients and our partners; and most importantly is true to the OMD DNA.

We shared with you some of the key initiatives that we will look to launch over the next 3 years and the key measures of success. We look forward to hearing more from you on how this can be lived and breathed through the business in the coming weeks.

2015 has been a massive year for giving the OMD brand some love. In Sydney, we launched OMD’s Big Day Out, an immersive experience for our media partners designed to give then greater access and long term visibility on our key client’s priorities, the day was a big success with the following feedback:

It was brilliant! The time, effort, preparation and attention to detail was really obvious and made for an entertaining and informative few hours. The guys presenting were brilliant and a complete credit to OMD.”

It was fantastic to see the passion and knowledge you all have for our clients’ businesses and brands and we did it in true OMD style. We also took a sponsorship of Mumbrella 360, where we ran two masterclasses; Programmatic – it’s not one size fits all (where we discussed openly the different programmatic solutions) and Data and Creativity. The Insights team were jammed packed this year, leading two major thought leadership pieces: OMD’s Passport to Discovery (our bespoke tourism research) and Millennial Moments (in depth study on use of mobile). We also shared some of the great Cannes work, both internally and for clients with the Cannes Download and we continued to have some great guest speakers with Think Fresh, which included Michael Smith, Nicole Sheffield & Damian Keogh.

As part of our focus on process and driving great work we delivered some key initiatives, including SBU Express & OMD Showcase. In Melbourne we hosted Fuseolution and in Tassie we ran The Hot House Think Tank.

‘Be the Best You Can Be’ was our people strategy for a range of new initiatives in 2015. The training schedule was extensive, including bringing the OMG Leadership Simulation course to Sydney for the first time and taking ADs offsite to law courts, lawyers offices and into a box they had to work their way out of! The OMD Degree was introduced and awarded to all that have completed 10+ learning modules, and according to our Great Place to Work results, you rated our training program at 91% satisfied, a full 12% higher than the next media agency.

We moved up to No 18 in the Great Place to Work survey on our journey to the top 10 and we have been in the top 50 for a record 7 successive years!

We extended our contribution to top University courses and we reap the benefit by employing their best students.

We were excited to announce a number of significant promotions this year  and also had a host of new talent join us! We were named the largest and highest billing media agency in Australia by RECMA & also ranked No.1 AdNews Agency Ranking by office and network. Our trophy cabinet is looking very full, with OMD landing  30 gongs, including most awarded agency at the Festival of Media Asia-Pacific Awards (4 Gold including Campaign of the Year), Festival of Media Global Awards (8 wins including Grand Prix & Agency Network), M&M Global Awards (3 wins including Campaign of the Year) as well as being ranked named Campaign Asia-Pacfic’s ANZ Media Agency of the Year and B&T’s Employer of the Year.

As we wrap up 2015, I am incredibly proud of all that we have achieved together as a high performing team, and thankful for all of your input that has gone into helping us to shape our future.
